After weeks of speculation, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his intent to resign as Prime Minister and Liberal Party Leader. Trudeau says he will stay on until the Liberal Party conducts a robust leadership race in what he called a “nationwide competitive process”. In the meantime, the Governor General has agreed to prorogue parliament or discontinue this session of parliament until March 24th. Trudeau says after reflecting on his future over the holiday he told his children last night of his intention to resign. Trudeau says if he must continue to fight internal battles within the party, he is not the person to lead the Liberal Party into the next election.
